Newswire)-- The countries taking part in the East Asia
Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (EATOF) in Malaysia recently
expressed their unanimous backing for PyeongChang¡¯s 2014
Winter Olympic bid, in a formal statement.
The delegations from nine Asian nations with provinces or
regions represented at the regional tourism forum, which
includes Korea¡¯s Gangwon Province, issued a Joint
Declaration containing a statement supporting PyeongChang¡¯s
bid to host the 2014 Winter Games.
The members of EATOF issued the declaration at the close to
their annual General Meeting, held over three days last week
in Sibu, Sarawak State, on the Malaysian island of Borneo.
The governor of Gangwon Province, Jin-sun KIM, who is also
PyeongChang 2014 executive president, said that cooperation
and exchanges among EATOF members will have broad and
far-reaching benefits such as expanded tourism potential and
promoting the common interests of all regions.
The Asia regional tourism body was established by Korea¡¯s
Gangwon Province, where PyeongChang is located, in 2000. It
aims to bring together the East Asian provincial governments
for cooperation in tourism among their regions and
throughout East Asia.
Besides Gangwon Province, the eight active member regions
are Tottori Prefecture, Japan; Jilin Province, China; Tov
Province, Mongolia; Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia;
Chiang Mai Province, Thailand; Cebu Province, Philippines;
Sarawak State, Malaysia, and Russia¡¯s Primorsky krai
Territory.
