American
football star Hines Ward visits Cheong Wa Dae with his
mother

Seoul, Apr 04 2006 (Korea Newswire)-- On April 4, 2006,
President Roh Moo-hyun invited to at Cheong Wa Dae Mr. Hines
Ward, the Super Bowl MVP of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his
mother, Mrs. Kim Young-hee, and hosted a luncheon on his
behalf. The Korean-born American football star is visiting
Korea with his mother.
The President invited Mr. Ward and his mother to honor his
enthusiasm and hard work that made him a hero in American
sports as well as his mother's extraordinary devotion and
love in raising such a commendable son.
Before the luncheon, Mr. Ward presented the President with
an autographed ball and a Steelers' uniform with his back
number. They then had a joint photo session in the
presidential office.
The President and the First Lady held the luncheon for Mr.
Ward and his mother along with a small group of guests
including Minister of Culture and Tourism. Conversation at
the luncheon centered on Korean culture, many talented
Korean athletes and their outstanding achievements in the
international arena, and Mr. Ward's own successful career as
an American football player.
At the luncheon, President Roh expressed hope that this
significant visit would serve an occasion for Mr. Ward and
his mother to understand better and to take more interest in
their native land. He also wished Mr. Ward the best of luck
and continuing success in the United States.
