Seoul, Apr 18 2006 (Korea Newswire)--
Delegations from six Asia-Pacific governments, industries,
and research institutes will work to devise specific
measures to develop and deploy clean technologies. The
meeting will be held between April 18 and 21 in San
Francisco.
The working-level meeting is aimed at accelerating efforts
to promote clean technologies under the Asia-Pacific
Partnership on Clean Development and Climate. The
Partnership was launched last year with the participation of
six countries namely, the U.S., Australia, China, Korea,
Japan, and India.
One outcome of last year's meeting was the agreement that
the partners would set up eight task forces in such areas as
renewable energy, building & home appliances, steel, coal
mining, aluminum, cement, power generation & transmission,
and clean fossil fuels. As the chair of renewable energy and
building & home appliances, Korea submitted a proposal to
build the Asia-Pacific Energy Technology Cooperation Center,
which would monitor each member's efforts in enhancing
energy efficiency.
The working-level meeting will focus on the following
agendas:
1) develop specific strategies for each task force
2) present detailed plans to establish and operate the
Asia-Pacific Energy Technology Cooperation Center
3) discuss ways to finance programs of the Partnership |
