Seoul, Sep 27 2005 (Korea Newswire)--
The 8th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC 2005)
will kick off on October 10 - 12 at COEX in southern Seoul,
bringing together 2,500 Chinese entrepreneurs from all over
the world and 500 Korean business leaders. It is the first
time that Korea will host an event that brings together many
influential Chinese entrepreneurs to the country.
At the 8th WCEC, which will be held under the theme of
"Greater Ties with Chinese Entrepreneurs: Enhancing Global
Peace & Prosperity," Chinese and Korean entrepreneurs will
exchange business information and strengthen mutual
cooperation particularly on the Information Technology (IT)
and Biotechnology (BT) fronts.
CEOs from 200 local companies and prominent Chinese business
figures will be in attendance - including Huang Meng Fu
(chairman of All-China Federation of Industry Commerce), Ian
FOK Chun-wan (president of Yau Wing Co. Ltd.), and Liu Chuan
Zhi (president of Legend Holdings Ltd,).
In the meantime, Korean companies will seek to capitalize on
the event to pitch Korea¡¯s advantage as an investment
destination to Chinese investors. Chinese-owned businesses
globally represent the third largest economic force behind
American and European enterprises by asset value. In
addition, China and its neighboring economies - where the
Chinese have a dominant presence - represent a huge market
with a population of 1.9 billion.
Besides the business opportunities, the Convention will
showcase all that Korea has to offer, including performances
by some of Korea¡¯s top entertainers. Singer and actress Jang
Na-ra, who enjoys enormous popularity in China, will lend
her star power to the event. Ms. Jang and others are
expected to further fuel the so-called "Korean Wave" - a
cultural phenomenon that has swept through Asia, heating up
the demand for Korean songs, movies, television shows and
even fashion and cuisine.
Since its inception in 1991, the biannual convention has
served not only as a great networking opportunity for
Chinese business people themselves, but also as an
opportunity for its host countries to better attract invest
opportunities.
Seoul was selected as a venue for WCEC 2005 on January 2003
beating out Japan, Macao, and Britain. Previous conventions
were held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vancouver,
Melbourne, Nanjing, and Kuala Lumpur. |
